The 2018 GMC Terrain is quite unlike any other small SUV in its class. Featuring available all-wheel drive, a turbocharged engine, and all-new transmission, the model looks to revolutionize the driving experience. Redesigned and more comfortable than ever before, the GMC Terrain holds its ground as a premium SUV at an affordable price.
The GMC Terrain features a new four-cylinder engine mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. That smooth combination comes with a new shifter as well. The center console is no longer home to the standard shifter. Instead, GMC replaced the shifter with a row of buttons in order to free up space.
The new shifter features buttons for neutral, park, and low gears. Setting the vehicle in drive or reverse requires pulling a toggle switch. While there’s no defined Sport option, Low is a great alternative.
The new nine-speed automatic transmission shifts quickly and smoothly. The transmission comes paired with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers a thrilling 252 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque.
While most drivers likely won’t take the GMC Terrain off-road, rest assured that the off-road mode and Hill Descent Control are more than capable of doing so.
